Let's Build!

Well our house has finally changed hands  and now belongs to the State and we are well on our way to start building our dream home. We are still living in our old house and hope to be able to stay for the duration of our build but will have to see. Some of the highlights of the last few weeks include picking our contractors, Brian Hirsh and Phillip Maynor who make up MH Heartwood Construction. We have been very impressed with their craftsmanship, attention to detail and timeliness. If they said they would do something, they did it, on time and exactly as promised.

Our exact date for breaking ground is expected to be the 15th of June with a completion date of around Christmas. Needless to say, we are quite excited. Here are a few pictures from  the day we laid out the house site.

Lisa and Brian putting in stakes.

Brian and Phillip laying out the back wall.  Do you think we'll need to mow?

In addition to all the excitement of getting started on the house, the garden continues to grow and produce. We have been very pleased with our production so far and have enjoyed swiss chard, snap peas, and lettuce. Last night Lisa harvested her first bunch of beets, some onions, our first potatoes and more snap peas and lettuce which we are happily sharing with coworkers and neighbors.

Not bad for the first of June. we also have soybeans, green beans, carrots  and tomatoes on the vine but not ready to pick.
