Tim came to play again and did just a masterful job sculpting the property around the house and securing proper drainage at the barn and around the house. It looks beautiful and will be very easy to mow.
One of the graces we experienced this week was the opportunity to buy a box blade for our little tractor. It turned out to be the tool of the day as it allowed me to smooth out all of the earth Tim moved and made for a very consistent yard. Heck, it even smoothed out the driveway and is now my new favorite tool/toy on the farm. I bought it in Craig's list for about half the going price.
This is the front yard near the berm cut so as to allow drainage around the house.
This is a view of the side yard behind the garage and kitchen. The first time Tim came he piled up a huge hill of top soil. Today, he moved it to fill in low areas in the back yard and the area around the septic tank and blended in the area near the barn. It has more than doubled the amount of space we have back there. Soon, they will install the geothermal heat pump which will be buried in this area, then we'll plant a few trees and bushes to enhance the landscape. Tomorrow, we will plant grass seed and spread lime and fertilizer to keep erosion under control.
