Today we watched as they dismantled our old house, if thats what you call using a track hoe to tear gaping holes in it. It was a little sad to see it go in so many pieces. Fortunately, we have a lot of good memories of that house, It was our home for 25 years. In the long run, it is just a thing, a compilation of wood and nails, sweat, a hundred layers of paint, glass, and some aluminum siding. But it was ours and I'm glad we were able to bring some of it with us to the new house. While it was sad to see it go, the annex continues to have life as the DOT has chosen to use it as an office and storage space during the road construction. It should give them an excellent view of the road now that the house is gone. Thats sort of a surprising thing: the lot really is quite nice without the house, strange to say. Unfortunately, much of what gives it it's charm, the trees and shrubs, will all be gone once the construction begins.
So, no turning back now, not that we ever thought about it or would even want to. It is good to be sitting in the new house as I write this, enjoying the features built into this house that we envisioned and our contractors so carefully created for us. Despite the loss, (it wasn't even ours any more) or more likely because of it, we have much to be grateful for.
We have pictures but won't put them up in deference to our children. If they give us permission we'll put them up for you to see.
