Ever since we knew we were moving, Lisa and I have always said we wanted to move the Japanese Maple tree that has been in front of our house for at least 18 years. It is a beautiful specimen that has received lots of complements over the years. It's twisted trunk and elegant branches seemed to be just to beautiful to leave for the bulldozer. While we have looked high and low to find someone willing to dig this up and move it to the new property it wasn't until today that we were able to finally get someone willing to do more than talk about it and actually get dirty and do the work.
Ryan and Sharee's brother-in-law, Chris Hicks and a coworker did the deed and we are grateful for their hard work and effort. As you can see from the pictures, it took a lot of sweat(hand shovel work), and mechanized assistance to get it out of the ground and over to Causby Road.
I believe it was a lot harder than they thought it was going to be, but they persisted and got it out of the ground with a fair amount of root ball attached.
After a long day, the tree was finally in the ground at its new home. Now, we can feel like we've moved to our new home, roots and all.
