Gutter Done
I guess this is a sign we really are close to the end of building our barn/shop as the gutter contractor installed our gutters today. The box pictured under the downspout is one of our rain barrels (it rained like crazy after they installed it and it's already filled to overflowing). We'll use this to water a couple of garden beds located on this side of the structure. We hope the gutters will reduce erosion and make it easier for us to complete the grading around the building.
This is the north east side of the barn with the two downspouts which will be channeled into a drainage ditch just out of camera shot. Even after the heavy rains today, the base of the building was dry. Now we can clean up all of the loose boards lying around the foundation trying to keep the water from splashing up on the building. We get closer each week.
On the home gardening front, this is a shot of our front porch garden. Don't let anybody tell you that you can't get a significant amount of fresh produce from a few containers. The two larger plants in the picture are Lisa's Godzilla grape tomatoes. They are a good two feet taller that me and are only limited by the height of the porch ceiling. We have had fresh tomatoes daily for more than two months with no end in sight. The smaller hanging baskets behind the tomatoes are where we have grown the beautiful swiss chard we have shown you before. They are still producing and we have eaten and shared many bunches with more stalks still growing.
