Spring is in full swing with plenty of visual feasts to enjoy along with good things to eat. This first picture is of the day lilies and the raise beds. The raised beds are full of potato plants as well as carrots, soy beans, broccoli ( if the deer will stay out of it) and tomato plants. The bottom bed has green beans and beautiful lettuce. We've been eating on the lettuce for a week or so and love the first greens of the season.
Potatoes and tomatoes are the star of this picture. For a change this year, we have planted a variety of flowers with the veggies to take advantage of their complementary qualities of attracting good bugs and chasing away bad bugs. We think it will look pretty too. I tried an experiment today using fish emulsion for fertilizer. Boy, does that stuff stink. I hope the dear and other critters find it disgusting as well.
Finally, the last picture is of one of our oldest beds which is full of beets, peas, pepper plants and soy beans. everything looks great and seems to be doing just grand. The fence in the background is to keep our little friend the ground hog out of things. So far it has worked.
