Spring has definitely sprung and the garden is officially underway. We have potatoes and onions well along and beets and broccoli showing their heads. Today, Lisa planted peppers (red and jalapeno) sugar peas, soy beans and a single tomato plant, (the rest are still in the "nursery". The fence you see is to keep the neighbors out.
While mowing, I noticed a big. fat, ground hog eyeing our garden which gave us strong encouragement to put up the fence you see above. This little "neighbor" might end up on the wrong end of a .22 soon.
Here's the lettuce peaking its head out. You can't tell by this picture bit there are a variety of different lettuces represented there including speckled trout, deer's tongue, a red leaf and several other lettuces. We are really looking forward to those getting big enough to eat.
This is one of two rhubarb plants we have. We'll soon be picking stalks from them. Lisa couldn't help herself and picked a big fat stem off it yesterday. We're trying to show some patience and wait a little while before we do some more harvesting but its tough.
Finally, we've begun to transfer some of our shrubs from the old house to the new property so we can get them established before we begin building. These are some azaleas we had various places in the yard which are now located on the north east side of the barn where they will get some shade. We're still waiting to hear from the state but know of a couple of folks who are already done and have signed papers. We are optimistic that we will here something around Easter. Its a good time for miracles.
