Fall changes

So its the end of the gardening season on the farm and we've cleaned out the beds (except for a few crowder peas that are still producing) and added new organic matter to build the soil up in preparation for planting a cover crop for the winter. One little surprise was the bounty of peppers we found in our long ignored pepper garden.  Pretty nice, most will end up in the freezer while some will be stuffed and eaten for dinner.

One challenge that has bothered me all summer was how to get the camper under the shed roof. The problem is, we still need to get some dirt brought in and spread around in front of the garage door so I can pull my truck down there to put it away. As it stands right now, my truck would be too far down hill and might need a tow truck to get it back out. What to do? I found a website for a business that makes equipment for our little Kubota (happens to be down the road in Shelby NC) We ordered a receiver hitch for it and used the tractor to put the camper away. Seeing as Lisa and I just got back from  a camping trip we thought it was a good opportunity to give it a try and it worked perfectly. Problem Solved!

Finally, we added a landing pad for our tractor. After doing such a nice job on the floors we didn't want the tractor bucket and equipment to beat it all up. So, we found these diamond plate plastic squares that clip together and are designed to protect floors from heavy vehicles. They are also impervious to chemicals, they look great and were easy to put together. This is definitely the nicest garage/barn in Burke County!
